Satellite data retrieval
Retrieval and interpretation of IASI data
The Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer has been launched onboard METOP-A on 19 October 2006. Level 1 spectral data distribution started in March 2007.

This is an image of the IASI instrument. This instrument is installed on the METOP-A satellite shown in the figure below. The ground path of the satellite and the field-of-view of the IASI measurements are shown.
EUMETCAST transmits level 1 and level 2 IASI data that are received by a EUMETCAST reception system setup at BIRA-IASB.
We contribute to the retrieval of scientific data products for trace gases, in particular, methane and nitrous oxide, and aerosol, using line-by-line spectral modeling and retrieval tools called ASIMUT and ALVL. |

Work in progress
The team is working on the validation of atmospheric chemistry products from the IASI experiment, like CO and HNO3, and the retrieval and validation of IASI CH4 data.
For the validation, it uses ground-based FTIR data from several NDACC stations.
